Indianapolis-based singer, songwriter, and musician Kim Kenny has been performing for as long as she can remember. Encouraged by her parents, she began singing and playing the piano in the family’s church when she was just eight years old. She credits gospel music as being the foundation of her soulful sound. As a child, Kim could often be found on the piano singing and composing her own songs. As a performer, Kim has proudly shared the stage with artists such as Lamar Campbell, Sandi Patty, Madonna, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Mandy Gonzalez from “Hamilton!”, Common, The Zach Brown Band as well as wowed the audience of the Steve Harvey Show with her acapella rendition of “His Eye is on the Sparrow”.
In her teenage years, her study of classical voice and jazz that landed her a scholarship to Marian University to purse Vocal Performance. While in college, Kim balanced school work along with a budding professional singing career. At 19, Kim first showcased her unique sound, nationally, with a televised performance on Amateur Night at the famed Apollo Theater in New York. The following year she also released a gospel album called “More than a Conqueror”. Upon graduating from Marian University, she emerged in the field of education as piano accompanist and choral director. Today, she has a masters in music from Butler University and now preparing to purse a PhD in Urban Education.
Deeming education as one of her greatest passions, Kim has 10 years of teaching experience and avidly serves the arts industry in various capacities ranging from Music Director to Vocal Coach. In 2018, she founded Indy Urban Youth dedicated to providing music education and performing arts based curriculum for young artist ages 8 to 19. Indy Urban Youth provides private instruction as well as arts industry navigation and preparation for minority students interested in attending a 4 year university. She balances her multi-faceted career all while being a dedicated mother to her beautiful daughter, Charity.
